주한영국문화원 선생님이 들려주는 아이엘츠 팁 세번째 입니다.

한국인들이 가장 어려워 한다는 영어 쓰기~ 자, 그 첫번째 팁입니다. 보시고 많은 도움 되시길 바래요.

In the writing part of the exam, many students lose marks because of poor punctuation and layout. Remember the following:

◎ Paragraphs – use them! (in both Task 1 & 2 for both the General & Academic versions). You should normally have at least 3 paragraphs for both Task 1 and Task 2.

◎ Indents - you may be able to see your paragraphs but the examiner might not. So leave a large space (e.g. minimum of 2 centimetres) at the beginning of each new paragraph they are easy to see straight away. If you do this, it’s not necessary to leave a line between paragraphs.

◎ Use the space - please write to the end of every line (unless you are finishing a paragraph). Many low-level responses are easy to spot as for some strange reason they do not do this.

◎ Full-stops everywhere! - some candidates leave marks on the page that look like full-stops (periods) in the middle of sentences. This makes your writing very hard to read and also makes a very bad impression on the examiner (If you need to rest your hand/pencil, don’t do so on the paper).

◎ Don’t be afraid to use punctuation – do use commas, semi-colons and colons etc, as they are effective in these tasks. Also check the basics e.g. Capital letters at the start and full-stops (periods) at the end of sentences
